Jim Hunt is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at the University of Guelph.

He was awarded the University Medal of Merit in 1999

Kinematic Illusions and the Precedents of Motion Pictures.

At the end of the 18th century, investigations of a particular class of optical illusions, principally by Roget and Faraday, led to the invention of a number of toys and amusements that were the precedents of motion pictures. These more-or-less forgotten illusions will be discussed and demonstrated.
