Virginia Lawrence

Virginia Lawrence holds a B.Sc. and a B.Ed. ( double specialization in Physics & Mathematics) from the University of Toronto, as well as an M.Sc. in Physics from the University Of Waterloo. Her educational experience includes being a Research Assistant in Physics, teacher of Physics, Math, and Computer Science in secondary and post-secondary institutions, Assistant Head in Mathematics, Co-Chair of regional science fair and Vice-Principal. She has designed mathematical software, games and physical models and has spoken at international conferences.

Hooking onto linear relations in Physics through a teacher-designed experiment and interactive software.

No longer just a user of commercial products, the 21st- century teacher designs hands-on experiments and interactive software based on theories of learning. This home-made Hooke's law experiment integrated with the software, enhances conceptual understanding, sketching and graphic interpretive skills of straight-line equations related to real-life and scientific phenomena . Developed using Maple and Hyperstudio, this software actively captures students' visual intelligence and evokes thinking to provide generative responses. Other features include corrective feedback, hide-and-show, scoring, timing and a student output file containing a student's 1st and 2nd responses and revealing any misconceptions held and difficulties encountered.

Free Cd's will be given out in lucky draws.
