Tour of the Institute of Quantum Computing

IQC is a world-leading research institute at the University of Waterloo exploring and taming the quantum world to transform the ways we compute, communicate and live. Harnessing quantum mechanics will lead to transformational technologies that will benefit society and become a new engine of economic development in the 21st century. During this visit, you will be introduced to concepts of experimental quantum information and tour some of the institute's state-of-the-art laboratories. You will discover how our scientists are trying to harness and exploit the quantum properties of photons, nuclear and electron spin, superconducting nano-circuits, and more.

Martin did his undergraduate studies in Mathematics and Physics at McGill University. For his graduate studies, Martin was part of the "first wave" of students to join the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo, obtaining his PhD in 2008 under the supervision of IQC's director, Prof. Raymond Laflamme. As a postdoctoral researcher, Martin joined the Quantum Transport group at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Ever since the beginning of his studies and during his years as a graduate student at IQC, Martin has been involved in several outreach activities and always had the passion of communicating science to whoever wants to listen. This is the reason Martin came back to IQC in June 2010 to pursue his passion and enhance and develop IQC's outreach program. His goal is to raise awareness of the ongoing quantum revolution to a variety of audiences.
