Session 07

Hasan Shodiev

Universal Tool for Tinkering

Some knowledge will soon be obsolete due to the rapid dynamic changes which we have today. In this fast changing time, the role of ability to think and act creatively not only through teaching but also through tinkering is a valuable strategy to use, especially in physics classrooms. Tinkering is to make experimental efforts at repair, to do a job. It is undervalued by High Schools who tend to emphasize mostly on planning skills - the ability to analyze all options, develop a strategy, and then carry out the plans. Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman etc. were great examples of this skill. Nowadays, new educational technologies come up with tools to work with both group of students and improve not only their knowledge but also their creative thinking and problem solving skills. Scratch programming platform will be used in this workshop.

Biography

Hasan Shodiev's one of researches involves study of the technology enhanced learning tools for K-12 and undergraduate level students. Currently he is working on creating content for developing computational thinking skills in students at different age levels with various backgrounds. Hasan teaches problem solving skills for science majoring students. Hasan, a physicist and mathematician by education and passion, is working on bringing computational simulations from research to educational domains for non computer science majoring and K-12 level students. He is adjunct professor in Physics and Computer Science Department and teaches physics, photonics and automation of experiments in these fields by DAQ and instrument control communication.
