Patrick Whippey, professor of physics, emeritus, at the University of Western Ontario, is very knowledgeable and dedicated and a role model to both educators and students. A willing and effective mentor to new and experienced teachers, he is well respected among all of the OAPT Section members and hundreds of physics teachers and students across the province. Whippey’s service to AAPT, the physics profession, and to the physics students and teachers of the Ontario Association of Physics Teachers has spanned over 40 years. He has made significant contributions to the Ontario Section as a member of the Executive Board, OAPT section representative, web master, contributor to numerous activities for physics teachers such as a Physics Contest, Physics Photo Contest, science shows and presentations for elementary, middle school, and high school students, Science Olympics, science fairs, OAPT member-at-large, organizer of the section and national conferences (one of them was the Canadian Association of Physicists-AAPT joint conference), contributor to the Science Teachers Association of Ontario events, etc. Whippey has been recognized many times for his service to both AAPT and the Canadian Association of Physics Teachers. One of his colleagues said, “Patrick is the very backbone of the Ontario Section.” For his years of outstanding teaching of physics and mentoring students and his dedication to AAPT, Patrick Whippey is recognized with the AAPT Distinguished Service Citation. |
