Patrick Whippey is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Western Ontario, where he was the chair of Undergraduate Affairs for 20 years. He continues to teach a course on Conceptual Physics to about 350 students each year.
Since his retirement, he has devoted much of his time to outreach through his involvement with the science fair and science olympics communities. He is currently the chair of the London District Science & Technology Fair. He also runs the London District Science Olympics in which 650 students from 23 schools participate in 23 events. At the National level, he is a member of the National Judging Committee for Youth Science Canada, which runs the Canada Wide Science Fair. As Chair of the Ethics Committee, he is responsible for ensuring that all students doing science fair projects understand and follow the rules that govern the participation of humans and the use of animals. He is also chair of the committee that selects the students who represent Canada at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.
He is the webmaster for the OAPT, where he organized the annual conference in 2003, and served this wonderful organization as chair in 2004.
During the summer, he camps in one or other of the National or Provincial Parks.
